 Truck Loading - Acid

Process Requirement–
A manufacturer of sulfuric acid and related chemicals needed an easy way to fill trucks with their hazardous cargo. They needed to:
  • Ensure the safety of the operator by eliminating exposure from looking in the loading port to gage how full the tank was
  • Account for actual amount sold - accuracy and reliability extremely important
  • Eliminate overfills - Overages must be pumped into other tanks and returned to the process through a return system which traps vapors but reduces their production capacity.
  • Complicated software of current meters were making it extremely difficult to program the range of their flow instruments

Solution–
The Sparling Tigermag
  • Their first Tigermag was installed in a truck loading line for Oleum (130% sulfuric acid)
  • The feeding system is completely automated, sending a batcher the high frequency pulses for control and the PLC a low flow alarm via a current trip from the 4-20mA signal.
  • The PLC controls the valves and monitors other larms for shutdowns.
  • Mag-Command made programming easy - they didn't have to open the meter to reset the span
  • They were so satisfied, they put it in three other truck loading applications in 99% sulfuric and 20-40% sodium bisulfite.
